Disruption patrol alerts authorities of work-related crime

Private operators outside of the public labour inspection system in both Norway and Sweden are gathering information on cowboy operators within the construction industry. The Nordic Labour Journal joined Vidar Sagmyr from the construction industry’s disruption patrol in Trondheim on an ordinary assignment. This time, he received no death threats.

Facts about the disruption patrol

The disruption patrol is financed by nine guilds and associations representing employers.

Owners representing employees are made up of seven trade unions. The patrol works to document:

  • The shadow economy
  • Fraudulent activities linked to MVA, payroll tax and obligatory occupational pensions
  • Dangerous work in elevated places or other breaches of health and safety
  • Underpaid labour
  • Workers without working permits
  • Illegal living quarters
  • Illegal electricity work
  • Corruption
