Iceland wants to complement the traditional economical measures, such as GDP, to measure people´s wellbeing. A committee set up by the Prime Minister has surveyed what the general public thinks are the most important factors to make their lives better.
The committee has proposed a framework of 39 indicators that cover social, economic and environmental dimension of quality of life.
The indicators are linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, they are based on official statistics and allow for international comparison.
According to the survey, Icelander's views health to be the most significant factor in quality of life. This was followed by relationships, housing and making a living.
