Vocational educations have a practical focus, and generally last for four years. They are divided into a basic course, which normally takes place in the vocational school, and a main course which primarily consists of practical training in a company.
Students can start directly after elementary school or after other education or work.
There are more than 100 vocational training courses, e.g. brick layer, social and health assistant, electrician, hair dresser, mechanic and gardener. A vocational education provides you access to jobs as a skilled worker.
The education’s content, structure and pedagogy is developed in cooperation between the social partners, businesses and the vocational schools. This is to make sure the courses are targeted at the needs of the skilled labour market, so that the students have the skills that are needed in the trade they will be working in at the end of their education.
