The newly arrived and the labour market

“Many who come here find work very quickly; others end up very far from the labour market. So we need to look particularly closely at these issues,” said Swedish Social Democrat Pyry Niemi during the debate at the Nordic Council session (above)

The prioritised areas

Between 2018 and 2021 the Nordic Council of Ministers will focus on the following areas of the Nordic labour market:

  • Strengthening the matching between demand and supply for skilled labour while increasing employment levels especially for weaker groups
  • Strengthening good working environments for both women and men, by for instance preventing work-related illnesses and injuries plus eradicating unacceptable working conditions
  • Securing a good balance between workers’ protection and flexibility, plus using the Nordic tripartite-based labour market policy
